SOIL EROSION & SEDIMENTATION CONTROL (SESC)

In addition to overseeing residential and commercial building inspections, the Montcalm County Building Department administers the Soil Erosion and Sedimentation Control (SESC) program. Projects that meet either of the following criteria require an SESC permit:

• Located within 500 feet of a lake, river, or stream
• Involve more than one acre of soil disturbance

Permit applications must include detailed plans outlining the erosion control measures to be implemented, along with a maintenance strategy to ensure ongoing protection of Michigan’s lakes, rivers, and streams.
